The Malta International Shipowners’ Association (MISA) congratulates its Vice President and founding member, Dott. Emanuele Grimaldi, Chairman of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and former President of the European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA), on being awarded the title of Honorary Member of the National Order of Merit, one of Malta’s highest national distinctions.

The honour was conferred by the President of Malta, H.E. Myriam Spiteri Debono, on the occasion of Malta’s Republic Day, on 13 December 2025, in recognition of Dott. Grimaldi’s exceptional leadership in the maritime sector, his internationally recognised contribution to global shipping, and his long-standing engagement with Malta’s maritime industry.

Dott. Grimaldi is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most influential maritime leaders. In his current role as Chairman of ICS — the global trade association representing the world’s shipowners — and previously as President of ECSA, he has played a significant role in shaping international and European shipping policy and in strengthening cooperation between industry and institutions.

Commenting on the honour, Marily Fragkista, President of MISA, said:

“This distinction reflects Dott. Grimaldi’s outstanding contribution not only to Malta’s maritime sector, but to international shipping as a whole, and the esteem in which he is held across the global maritime community.”

Dott. Grimaldi has been closely associated with MISA since its founding and has played a central role in supporting its international engagement and development.

On behalf of its Executive Committee and members, MISA extends its sincere congratulations to Dott. Grimaldi on this well-deserved honour, which is a source of pride for the Association and the wider maritime community.
