MISA Membership

Leading with purpose and vision.

About Membership

Join MISA and help support the future of the Maltese maritime community

Membership of MISA is a practical investment in representation, credibility, and access. In an environment of increasing regulatory complexity, heightened geopolitical risk and accelerating technological change, shipowners need a clear voice — and a trusted channel — in Malta, Europe and internationally.

Through MISA, members gain access to a powerful platform from which to strengthen their commercial position, influence regulatory developments, and engage with one of Europe’s most respected maritime jurisdictions. They stand to gain a unified voice in discussions with national authorities, European institutions and international bodies, ensuring that industry perspectives are understood and reflected in policy decisions that directly affect operational and commercial outcomes.

MISA membership is open to registered owners and bareboat charterers of vessels flying the Malta flag. Our diverse membership base comprises reputable international shipping companies operating a vast array of vessel types.

Collectively, our members represent a substantial volume of tonnage, reflecting the global significance of the Maltese registry. This diversity ensures that MISA provides a balanced and comprehensive perspective on issues affecting the varied segments of the maritime industry.

In 2025, MISA also launched an Associate Membership category, which is open to individuals and organisations linked, or wishing to be linked, with Malta-registered ships.

Who can join

Full Membership

Open to registered owners, charterers or registered lessors of Malta-registered vessels. Membership demonstrates a genuine link with Malta that goes beyond operational or economic necessity.

Associate Membership

Open to service providers, organisations, associations and individuals who share similar interests as Full Members and wish to be linked to Malta-registered shipowners and the objectives of MISA. Associate Members have no voting rights but may participate in activities and benefit from visibility and engagement.

Membership Benefits

By joining MISA, members gain:

  • a direct, credible voice in Malta, Europe, and internationally;

  • representation in EU and international policy processes through ECSA and ICS;

  • structured engagement with Maltese authorities;

  • participation in MISA initiatives and representation

  • access to a network of international shipowners committed to Malta’s maritime future.

MISA’s role is complementary to members’ existing legal and professional representatives in Malta. Where issues are systemic, the Association can drive collective engagement; and where a member has an individual issue that would benefit from elevation through MISA — including situations where the member has reached an impasse with their representative — the Association can support constructive dialogue and escalation.
